REASONS FOR YOUR STOMACH UPSET AND FOODS TO AVOID

Stomach upset is a symptom experienced by many individuals worldwide. It varies according to the illness of the individual, and sometimes it can be mild or severe. It is a symptom that is common in the world population.

But as much as this symptom is common, many individuals do not know what could be the reason or the indication behind the discomfort in their stomach. Of which we would be diving into in this article alongside the foods to avoid when having such symptoms;

  1. Malabsorption disorders; This occurs when the body is unable to properly digest and absorb nutrients, the symptoms could include; Diarrhea, bloating, stomach cramps, nausea, and if unattended to, it can lead to weight loss. The common malabsorption disorders include: Celiac disease (gluten intolerance), Lactose intolerance, and bile acid malabsorption. 

Foods to avoid: greasy foods, high fat dairy, milk, cheese, yogurt, wheat, raw vegetables, high fructose fruits (watermelon, apples, mangoes), alcohol. 

Notes: These foods vary with the different malabsorption. 

  1. Infections & Gut Issues: This is mostly caused by contaminated water and food sources, leading to; 
  1. Bacterial/ Viral Infections; These bacteria not only interrupt digestion, but they also inflame the stomach and intestines, leading to fluid secretion. 
  2. Parasitic Infections; Which interfere with nutrient absorption and cause digestive distress. 
  3. Irritable Bowel Syndrome; It is triggered by stress or food sensitivity 

Foods to Avoid: Fried foods, processed foods, high fiber foods (corn, beans, cabbage), acidic foods, caffeine, spicy foods. 

3.  Liver or Gallbladder Problems; The pain that occurs in the right upper abdomen and is felt as a sharp stabbing sensation is likely related to gallbladder problems, while a dull ache and more spread ache is most likely related to liver problems. 

Foods to avoid: Processed foods, red meats, white bread, soda, high sodium foods, as it could lead to liver swelling. 

Individuals are advised to visit a doctor if these symptoms persist for proper diagnosis and treatment.
