The Long Spoon: Episode 1 – The Discovery

Adunni trudged up the creaky stairs, her feet boring down on the wooden stairs, with the weight of her own reluctance. She had been tasked with cleaning out the dusty attic of the Golden Whisk restaurant, a job that seemed to have been created specifically to torment her.

Adunni paused by the rickety door, releasing a frustrated sigh. She could gladly do with cooking non-stop for the whole day, even though it would end in a flavorless flop. The door creaked, as she pushed it open. A faint scent of old spices and stale air wafted out, making her nose wrinkle. Dust filled her lungs, triggering a spasm of coughs. She flail her hands, trying to shoo away the pesky particles.

Adunni’ eyes adjusted slowly to the dim light, and she began to make out the shapes of old trunks, broken appliances, and stacks of yellowed papers. The attic was a treasure trove of forgotten relics, each one more mysterious and dusty than the last. She sighed, wondering where to start.

As she wandered deeper into the attic, her fingers trailing over the dusty surfaces, she stumbled upon some ancient recipe-books. She slouched to look them over, blew the dust off the hard cover. “Maybe I will find me a helpful recipe” she cackled.

As she opened the pages, her eyes fell on an old wooden spoon. It was nestled between another ancient recipe-book, its long handle gleaming in the faint light. Adunni’s heart skipped a beat as she picked up the spoon, feeling an inexplicable jolt of excitement. There was something strange about the spoon, something that seemed to hum with a quiet power.

She turned the spoon over in her hands, studying it carefully, the recipe-books now forgotten. The wood was smooth and worn, the handle adorned with intricate carvings of leaves and vines. The spoon itself was long and slender, with a delicate curve that seemed to fit perfectly in the palm of her hand.

Adunni felt a shiver run down her spine as she realized that the spoon seemed to be… speaking to her. She laughed nervously, telling herself how silly her thought was. But as she turned to put the spoon back, she felt a sudden surge of energy, like a spark of electricity had jumped from the spoon to her fingers. Startled, she dropped the spoon.

Adunni’s eyes widened in surprise as she stared at the spoon, her heart pounding in her chest. “What was going on?”
